Artist Statement
Katelynn is a fine artist working with watercolours in Edmonton, Canada. Her primary inspiration has come from vintage botanical textbooks and academic botanical figures, with attention to fine details and an illustrative feel. Most of her paintings feature local flora from her own gardens or those of family members, focusing on Albertan plants. Her interpretation of colour gives the timeless feel of antiques, while her precision comes from a love of scientific accuracy.
Biography
B.Sc. Chemistry (Major) Biology (Minor), Kings University 2013
Ph.D. Medicine, University of Alberta 2020
Katelynn grew up surrounded by an extremely artistic family, gaining a love for art by osmosis. She learned sketching, painting, and classical violin from an early age. After completing her scientific degrees, she began using watercolours as a creative outlet outside of her work as a research scientist. Art and science have always coexisted in her life, and she brings her scientific eye and love for vintage textbooks to her paintings, producing a unique illustrative style.
She has since joined the Budding Art Collective in Edmonton, AB, as well as the Federation of Canadian Artists.
