Artist Statement
I have always had an artists’ soul and have found different ways to express myself since I was a child. There has never been a time in my life when I was not creating. In the arts, I am able to discover my own magical worlds. Drawing inspiration from nature and the beauty of color, I hope to leave people feeling happy when they look at my work. I want them to share in the beauty of my world.
I love to experiment in various mediums and learn new techniques. I have an appreciation for both abstract and classical style paintings. I try to create both of these styles in my own work using different mediums. While I have worked with pastels and watercolors, I am continually drawn back to using acrylic, oil and alcohol inks. I love the different qualitites they each bring to by art. When I paint portraits or wildlife I tend to work in acrylic and oils. I like to paint in classical techniques when I use those mediums. Using alcohol inks is a very freeing and calming experience for me. I do not think about what I’m going to paint, but rather I let the color guide me and go wherever it takes me. It is one of my favorite ways to de-stress and create.
Currently, I am working on recreating portraits in the classical styles of the masters. I am so inspired by the works of William-Adolphe Bouguereau, John William Waterhouse and John William Godward (to name a few), I want to re-create their style in my own works and share with the viewers my passion for this beautiful style of painting. Also having lived in Southern Saskatchewan for the last three years has inspired me to paint some of the beautiful wildlife I saw, in particular the wide range of different birds in my backyard. Canadian wildlife is so beautiful and precious it is a privilege to capture some of their spirit through art. I hope to capture the magic of these creatures and share it with my audience.
