Artist Statement
As a hyperrealistic watercolour painter, I find inspiration in many subjects—people, nature, architecture, dreams, history, and childhood memories.

Once I identify my subjects I employ careful observation and painting skills to create a painting that has a strong and believable resemblance to my subject. Hopefully, I will be able to reconstruct the relationships of colour, tone, form, and space to create a vivid image that is engaging. I find this process totally absorbing and satisfying.

My work is my passion. Painting is about visual intimacy. It is tasting the world with my eyes. It is studying, exploring, analyzing, and experiencing nature; connecting my eyes, my intellect, and my emotions. Realist painting, for me, is the process of immersion that involves contemplation, exhilaration, frustration, deliberation, and spontaneity.
Biography
Having lived in Jasper, Alberta, Canada in 2007 and eventually moving to Edmonton in 2010, Francis' love for the both the outdoors and the city grew tremendously. In 2015, after a long hiatus from the Art World, he attended watercolour workshops in Edmonton and rediscovered his love and mastery of the medium, with a newly found inspiration – scenes of Alberta landscapes and architecture. He also specializes in dramatic portraits and still lifes. He has participated in various exhibitions in Edmonton – at Lotus Art Gallery, Harcourt House, Art from the Unknown, and the Art Gallery of Alberta amongst others.

Besides his specialized commission works and constant practice, he also teaches workshops and classes at The Paint Spot in Edmonton. Most of his free time is spent painting at his home studio, hoping never to retire being a watercolourist.
