Artist Statement
I have been creating artwork for others to see since 2006, following the birth of my first son. 2013, I obtained my first gallery representation through my sea turtle artwork. In 2019, I started sharing sea turtle facts and information alongside inspirational messages in my published book 'Journey to the Sea Turtle. '

I am inspired to create wildlife artwork so that others can notice the wisdom and the beauty our animals bring forth. I see the subtitle colours that our world has to offer, and it is by painting these into my pieces, I allow others to observe how I see the world around me. While creating my pieces, I connect with life messages that promote personal growth, such as remembering to play, learning where love is lacking, and becoming a better person for oneself and our world. The purpose of my artwork is to inspire others to connect with the energy and love that exists all around us.
Biography
Carleen was born in the early seventies in Regina, Saskatchewan but her family soon moved back to the Sherwood Park, Alberta area where she spent most of her life; until she met her husband Kelly back in 1998.  Carleen lives in both Sherwood Park, Alberta and near Edgewood, B.C with her two boys, her husband and their family dog.

Art has always been apart of Carleen’s life. Even though her parents wanted her to go further with art after high school, she chose to study as a Massage Therapist back in 1994; and went further on to finish her Bachelor of Science Degree, major in Psychology with a focus on animal behaviour at the University of Lethbridge, graduating in 2002.  It was during her degree that she took two fine arts classes with Professor Alfred Young Man ( a history of art in the Native American studies program and a practical
Native American art class) to meet the fine art required credits with her Bachelor of Science degree.  By completing the five required canvases she found that her love of the arts was starting to rekindled.

Carleen did not do too much with her art until the birth of her first son in 2005.  She found being a new mother she needed to create something that was an inspiration for just her, so she turned to painting children.  Through all her training she always appreciated the human body and how a subtle movement can mean so much.  This drew her to paint her first child, which was titled “My Muse”.  This led to other commissions, some can be seen in homes the Sherwood Park area, while others as far away as California.

Even at this stage Carleen only dabbled in art as a career as she was still working as a Massage Therapist and now chasing after two little boys.  When in 2012 came around she created a painting that would change not only her focus on art, but her career as well.  Carleen retired from a long standing career of 20 years as a Massage Therapist in 2013 to pursue her art.

“Waiting” was the title of this life changing piece for Carleen and it was of a Green Sea Turtle.  While she was completing this piece she found that the turtle had a strong appeal to all who saw it and so she began to create more paintings like it.  Since this time the Green Sea Turtle is the main focus of Carleen’s art, as she found a love for finding the hidden colours in this amazing animal.  Carleen donates a portion of her profits from her limited edition prints of her turtles and elephants to different animal organizations, to help protect the animals that she paints.
